3. The Real Fact
According to statistics, to the end of March 2007 there are 345,812 foreign laborers in Taiwan; of these, about 20,000 people to flee.
But why do they want to escape? It is not because of the bad relationship between employers and employees; the majority reason is on account of foreign laborers work without rest whole year and the employer always orders them to do everything. Foreign laborers works hard all year, lost their private space and time, some employers may even limit the time for employees to go out, and not allowed them speak on the telephone or go to the church. In a variety of restrictions, foreign laborers will be the emergence of the idea of escape. Another main reason is that most of the salaries of foreign laborers have been deducted from agencies. If foreign laborers through intermediary companies come to Taiwan to work, they will be charge agent fees and service fees. In the huge economic pressure, foreign laborers would have wanted to escape similarly. Another saying is that foreign laborers being treated unfairly by employers, they turned to shelters to seek asylum. But in waiting for the Government's investigation, they also lost their jobs. After losing their jobs, they can not pay huge agent fees; they have to choose to escape to earn money. However, most people just blindly criticize foreign laborers to flee dereliction of duty, but not understand why they want to escape. To prevent the increasing number of foreign laborers flee, employers and Council of Labor Affairs must be make more efforts and real understand why they want to escape.
